Dr. Kecia Parrish

Practice Owner and Lead Veterinarian

Dr. Kecia Parrish grew up in O-H-I-O. For undergraduate school, she attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Dr. Parrish received her veterinary degree in 1996 from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine (GO BUCKEYES!). After graduating, she moved to the beautiful Pacific Northwest outside of Salem, Oregon. In Salem, she worked in a small animal practice. Within that organization, she owned her own practice which specialized in the care of llamas and alpacas. While she greatly enjoyed that chapter in her life, she and her husband Kevin decided to move to Columbia, Maryland in 2003.

After the move, Dr. Parrish practiced for seven and one-half years in a small animal hospital in Montgomery County. Finally, making the decision to run her own practice, she negotiated ownership of Hickory Ridge Animal Hospital and the Columbia Cat Clinic in July 2011. Dr. Parrish enjoys serving her community and is happy to have a practice right in the heart of where she lives.

In addition to running her practice, she works with several local rescue groups helping animals in need. Dr. Parrish resides with her husband Kevin, who is a high school math teacher and boy's varsity basketball coach at Gaithersburg High School. Together, they have a wonderful daughter named Addison.

Dr. Margaret Mulford

Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Margaret Mulford is a 'Marylander,' born and bred. She grew up in Rockville, MD, and went to Loyola College in Baltimore. After finishing undergraduate school, she worked in the biotechnology field for three years before deciding to attend veterinary school. After graduating from Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in Blacksburg, VA in 2001, she started practicing at a small animal clinic in Gaithersburg, MD. Three years later, she joined a practice in Rockville, where she worked with Dr. Parrish for seven years before taking a part-time position with Hickory Ridge Animal Hospital under Dr. Parrish.

She lives in Rockville, MD with her husband, Chris, their two kids, Ben, and, Emma, and three, 4-legged children; Roxy, Pepe-le-Pew, and Bianca.

Mandy Hendl, RVT

Practice Manager and Registered Veterinary Technician

Mandy is our practice manager and joined our team in the fall of 2019. Mandy is a registered veterinary technician and started in the veterinary field in 2002. Her background is in general practice and has some experience in emergency medicine as well. After working in Pennsylvania as a technician for 8 years, Mandy returned to Maryland and her roles grew into management positions. She has a special interest in low stress handling and behavior. Mandy enjoys celtic music and spending time with her family. She lives in Frederick County with her husband, Chris, 3 daughters (Audrey, Evie, and Violet), 2 cats (Oscar and Styx) and dog named Toby.  

Kelli Maxie

Lead Veterinary Technician

Kelli is our Lead Veterinary Tech, she came to work with Hickory Ridge Animal Hospital in the spring of 2017 with 10 years of veterinary experience. A Love for animals and the veterinary field is in her nature. She began helping her mom, who is also a Vet Tech, when she was very young. Her own passion for helping animals grew quickly from those experiences. She is especially interested in learning to understand animal behavior. Her goals are to attain her Vet Tech Certification so that she is even more equipped to improve animal lives. Her passion for improving lives lead her to open her home to her three kitty babies, Little, Stink, and Chloe, who she rescued as ferals from the streets of Baltimore and loves dearly.

Emily Forbus

Veterinary Technician/Receptionist

Emily has been working at Hickory Ridge Animal Hospital since 2015 and loves the doctors and staff that work here. She works as both a Receptionist and Veterinary Technician. Emily is a hard worker who is very dedicated, compassionate, and caring with the pets and people she works with. She is currently a pre-veterinary student at Howard Community College, with plans to complete her bachelor's degree and apply to Veterinary School. Emily has two dogs of her own, Mya and Casey, that were rescued and are loved very much.

Whitney Rideout


Whitney came to Hickory Ridge Animal Hospital in 2018. She has always had a passion for animals since a young girl. When her first pet Harvey, a carnival goldfish, passed away, she announced she wanted to be an "animal doctor". This aspiration has not changed. She has a bachelor's degree in agriculture (pre-vet studies) and plans to go to veterinary school once her 6 year old son gets older. She has had several pets over the years. Currently she has a 4 year old kitty named Meowser,  whom her son named after a favorite Mario character. 

Julia Schulke

Receptionist/ Veterinary Assistant

Julia joined Hickory Ridge in the summer of 2019. She, along with her husband Taylor and their dog, Lakota, moved from Boston where they had resided for 3 years. Julia has a bachelor's degree in marine science and a wide variety of animal experience and plans to go back to school to finish her veterinary technician certification. She has worked in other veterinary practices as a veterinary assistant and as an administrator for a dog daycare/ boarding facility. She has also held positions as a zookeeper and zoo educator. Julia has always had a love for animals and enjoys how devoted the doctors and staff are with every single client at our practice. 

Maggie Walker

Kennel Assistant

Maggie joined our team in 2014 and resides in Ellicott City, MD. She has an A.A. degree in Pre-Veterinary Medicine from Howard Community College and and earned an B.A. in Animal Science from the University of Maryland. She currently has 3 feisty cats whom she raised from about 10 days old named Stasia, Sunshine, and Jazz. She takes pride in ensuring every patient in our care receives individualized attention and love. Her attention to detail and observational skills are true assets to the team. In her free time, Maggie enjoys watching movies, playing video games, and performing theater.    


Security Officer/ Watcher of Birds

Mojo joined our family in 2012. He not only lives here, but oversees all aspects of operations within the hospital. Over the years, Mojo has worn many hats but most enjoys monitoring the birds outside his window and making sure all staff have the esteemed opportunity to feed him and give him chin scratches.
